Event Format: The Masquerade is the event where costumers and cosplayers from around the world bring out their best costumes and performances to try to be the Best in Show.
Masquerade Event Rules:
1. There will be a maximum 2 minute time limit for each skit entry and a 45 second limit for each walk on entry.
2. Keep recordings to the 2 minute or 45 second time limit. Any recordings that run over the time limit will be cut to fit the required time limit.
3. The Masquerade will have 40 primary entries and 10 standby entries.
4. All entries are limited to a maximum of 8 members. 10 with approval from the Event Manager.
5. Narrations read by the MC must be 35 words or less. Narratives will be read before performances and costumers information.
Masquerade Costume Rules:
1. This event is for amateur costumers only. Professional or compensated seamstresses, costumers, etc. may not participate in competition.
2. All costumes being presented for judging must be accompanied by a reference book. Please read the General Costume Rules for more information.
3. Any costume being presented for the Top 5 Awards and Craftsmanship Awards must attend the Preliminary Costume Judging. Any costume not presented at the Preliminary Costume Judging will not be eligible for the Top 5 Awards and Craftsmanship Awards.
a. If an entry misses their appointment, there will be NO MAKE UP appointment. The entry will automatically forfeit their eligibility for the Top 5 Awards and Craftsmanship Awards consideration.
b. Costumes, appliances and make up are NOT required to be worn at the Preliminary Costume Judging. This is for the Judges to review the costume and reference book. Follow up reviews will be conducted just before Masquerade for the costumes presented at the Preliminary Costume Judging.
Awards:
Top Awards – These are for entries that have shown the best combination of both presentation and costume craftsmanship.
1. Best in Show
2. Best Group performance
3. Best single performance
4. Judges award
2. Craftsmanship Awards – These entries have shown an excellence in costume
construction for each skill level. To be eligible, an entry must go through
preliminary costume judging.
For Solo Entries:
a. Best Expert Craftsmanship
c. Best Intermediate Craftsmanship
d. Best Novice Craftsmanship
For Group Entries:
a. Best Group Craftsmanship
3. Presentation Awards - This is for entries that have shown excellent stage presence through either performance or exhibition of costume.
For Solo Entries:
a. Best Solo Presentation
For Group Entries:
a. Best Group presentation
4. Judges Awards - These awards are for entries that the Judges deem worthy of an award, but did not fit into any of the other categories. A total of 2 judges awards will be presented.
